CASA Aviation Medicals


CASA Accredited Private & Commercial Pilot Medicals

 

Dr Denis Chew  has over 10 years experience conducting Aviation and Aerospace Aviation Medical Assessments. He is a full member of the Australian Society of Aerospace Medicine and is a (DAME) Designated Aviation Medical Examiner with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia.

We conduct Private and Commercial Pilot Medicals from our Prahran rooms (10 minutes from Melbourne CBD) 

Class 1 

This medical standard applies to holders of an Air Transport Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence (other than balloons), Multi-crew Pilot (aeroplane) Licence, Flight Engineer Licence or Student Flight Engineer Licence. 

Unless otherwise advised, a Class 1 medical certificate is valid for one year.

 

CASA requires tests for Class 1 & 3 medicals that are determined by age and may include hearing, ECG & Blood tests.

It is a requirement that a current ARN is held by the person requiring the Aviation Medical.

When booking please advise if you require a class 1, 2 or 3 medical and if it’s an initial or renewal medical. 

We conduct the majority of ALL components of the medical in house in ONE VISIT! (ECG, blood tests*, audiograms, spirometry, Urine Drug & Alcohol testing etc.) We have a special arrangement with a local cardiologist for VIP no waiting time assessment and pricing for any ECG Stress Test.

Please note we are NOT an Aviation Ophthalmologist, however we can refer you upon request.

*Blood tests require the applicant to fast - for further details, enquire when booking your appointment. 

Assessments are conducted via appointment only and must be booked in advance.

Pre Appointment Checklist

  • Bring Photo ID to all appointments eg. driving license
  • Bring most recent aviation medical certificate to your appointment
  • Bring along any recent test results you may have had
  • Bring along any corrective glasses or contact lenses

Class 2 

This medical applies to holders of a Student Pilot Licence, Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot (Balloon) Licence and Flight Radio Operator Licence.

Unless otherwise advised, a Class 2 medical certificate is valid for four years for applicants less than 40 years of age on the day of issue or two years for those aged over 40 years.

 

Class 3 

This medical standard applies to holders of an Air Traffic Control Licence or and Flight Service Officer.

Unless otherwise advised, a Class 3 medical certificate is valid for two years.

 

Recreational Aviation Medical

Allows appropriately licenced pilots to exercise the privileges of the recreational pilot licence without the requirement to hold a CASA Class 2 medical.

Unless otherwise advised, a Recreational Aviation Medical is valid 2 years until the age of 65 when validity becomes yearly.
